Fancy an Eccles-supported romantic comedy this Valentine’s Day? Come and see Croydon music legend, Samuel Coleridge-Taylor’s ‘Dream Lovers’ performed by international singers at Stanley Arts, an historic venue in southeast London.
This is not your usual opera. This is high camp and great singing, performed in English, under one hour long, and telling the story of two people searching for their ‘dream lover’ while aided by two camp characters who enjoy a spot of pink attire!
Co-produced by Fulbright-British Library Eccles Institute Scholar Laura Migliorino – whose extraordinary photographic series ‘Samuel Coleridge-Taylor and the Americans’ was exhibited at Stanley Arts in March 2024 – the show is under the musical direction of Michael Rose, is choreographed by William Byram, and is designed by Jennifer Gregory. The cast includes soprano, April Koyejo-Audiger (Royal Opera, Opera Holland Park); baritone, Benson Wilson (English National Opera, Glyndebourne); mezzo-soprano, Hannah Morley (Hampstead Garden Opera) and James Beddoe (Gothic Opera).
