Sony Pictures Animation has moved the release of Spider‑Man: Beyond the Spider‑Verse back by three weeks — the film will now swing into theaters on June 25, 2027, rather than the previously scheduled June 4 date.
Directors Bob Persichetti (who co-directed Into the Spider‑Verse) and Justin K. Thompson (co-director of Across the Spider‑Verse) return to wrap up Miles Morales’ trilogy. The screenplay comes from Phil Lord, Chris Miller, and David Callaham, with producers including Lord, Miller, Amy Pascal, Avi Arad, and Jinko Gotoh .
Shameik Moore is expected to reprise the role of Miles Morales, joined by Jason Schwartzman (The Spot), Karan Soni (Spider‑Man India), Hailee Steinfeld (Gwen), and Jharrel Jerome (the Prowler) .
At CinemaCon earlier this year, filmmakers teased that Miles is “on the run,” with Gwen and other Spider‑folk possibly unable to come to his rescue — following the dramatic cliffhanger from Across the Spider‑Verse, where an alternate Miles becomes the Prowler in a lawless New York.
The first two films have been major critical and commercial successes: Into the Spider‑Verse earned an Oscar for Best Animated Feature and grossed about $393.6 million, while Across the Spider‑Verse pulled in $690.5 million worldwide and secured another Oscar nod. Beyond the Spider‑Verse was originally slated for March 29, 2024, but was delayed — first due to the 2023 strikes, and now to June 2027.
Why the Delay?
Industry insiders suggest Sony shifted the release to June 25 to optimize its summer launch window — ensuring it avoids early June school-year overlaps and positions the film for a strong showing in IMAX and other premium formats.
