Violet Paul Foundation collaborates with Yenwa Gallery for mega art event

The Violet Paul Foundation is set to partner with Yenwa Gallery, Lagos, for its highly anticipated launch of the Violet Paul Foundation, scheduled for November 2nd, 2024, at Alliance Française Ikoyi, Lagos, from 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.

“This prestigious event is dedicated to advancing the foundation’s mission of supporting refugees and internally displaced persons across Africa through the transformative power of art. The event promises an evening of artistic excellence, humanitarian advocacy, and vibrant cultural expression, all in collaboration with Lagos’ renowned Yenwa Gallery, curated by Eniola Teslim Tajudeen Ibrahim and Aize Muhammed Pau, and hosted by Jake Ggbama,” said the organisers.

The unique event will feature a unique collection of artworks created by children from the Kakuma refugee camp, as well as works from some of Nigerians, Kenyans and French most celebrated artists. It will also feature a special screening of Kakuma My City, a short film by acclaimed filmmaker, Harrison Thane, which chronicles life and hope within the Kakuma refugee camp. Besides, there will be live performances by top Nigerian artists, including AYLØ, Mitch Straw, Abigail, Sons of Buntu, Don Paapi and DJ codename KND to energise the evening, providing a blend of musical genres and artistic synergy.

Yenwa Gallery Lagos is noted for its commitment to showcasing diverse artistic voices and fostering innovation in contemporary African art. This collaboration signifies a fusion of established talent and emerging voices, exemplifying the foundation’s dedication to creating opportunities for underrepresented communities while celebrating African creativity.

Visitors will have a chance to bid for exceptional art pieces through a silent auction, which will include both the works from the Kakuma camp and donations from renowned artists. Denola Grey, fashion icon and renowned host, along with Dr. Onyiibeke, will lead the auction proceedings.

Key event sponsors of the event include XO Bakery, Lokito Restaurant, Gregii Homes , Eris Kayser , Yenwa Gallery and Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority. A side attraction includes a raffle draw, with proceeds going directly to support the foundation’s ongoing projects in refugee camps across Africa.

Tickets for the event are available for purchase, with all proceeds going towards funding the foundation’s projects, including its extension to the Bakassi camp in northern Nigeria. Attendees are encouraged to come in “elegantly African” attire, reflecting the cultural richness and creativity that the foundation celebrates.
